May 26, 2006 -- Renewable fuels are considered the future of energy, but they can still be hard to find for the average consumer. However, the availability of a cleaner-burning diesel fuel is now increasing for Minneapolis area residents and fleets. Biodiesel, a renewable fuel made from domestic resources such as soybean oil, is now available at what is believed to be the first B100 pump in the metro area, the Pump N Munch on 6300 Lyndale Ave S. Richfield, MN. The fuel will be sold during all regular business hours, and is currently at the price of 2.879 a gallon.
Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine with few or no modifications, and can be blended with petroleum diesel at any level. Biodiesel significantly cuts harmful environmental emissions, promotes greater energy independence and boosts our economy. Today, more than 600 major fleets use biodiesel commercially, and 700 retail filling stations across the nation make it available to the public. Biodiesel is produced in Minnesota and benefits our local farmers. Biodiesel is the fastest growing renewable fuel in the country, and is part of the solution to reducing dependence on imported oil.
“Efficient and cost effective distribution is one of the most important elements of any energy industry,” said Joe Jobe, CEO of the National Biodiesel Board. “Increasing the number of facilities like these is important to getting biodiesel into the fuel tanks of Americans and helping to supplement our nation’s energy supply.”
National security doesn’t exist without energy security, and energy security doesn’t exist without energy independence. By bringing biodiesel to the metro area we are helping people to, in the words of Mahatma Ghandi, "be the change they wish to see in the world”.
Biodiesel Blue Distribution, LLC began distributing and marketing biodiesel two short years ago and has taken the industry by storm. Biodiesel Blue brings high-blend biodiesel to retail markets all across the United States. Biodiesel Blue currently delivers B99+ to a wide range of national distributors and end-users. Through a recent partnership with the Twin Cities Biodiesel Cooperative, Biodiesel Blue is establishing retail locations in the metro area and will have four others in the coming months to service an existing loyal and growing customer base.
