Energy Consumption
- Transportation accounts for two-thirds of the U.S. Oil Consumption.
- The U.S. Consumes nearly 655 million gallons per day, or 2.3 gallons for every man, woman and child in transportation alone! That's a swimming pool (7,600 gallons) of fuel being burned every second.
- Since 1751, humans have burned the amount of fossil fuel that would have come from all the plants on Earth for 13,300 years.
- There is no single solution or replacement. We need to begin using ALL renewable alternatives in earnest.
- Trip chaining or combining errands into one trip is a good habit to get into. Ride your bike more, or walk. Try out your local transit system. Some public transportation systems are becoming alternatively fueled.
- A gallon of gas represents approximately 200,000 pounds of ancient plant matter.
- A gallon of biodiesel represents about 7.5 pounds of vegetable oil.
