August 10, 2005 -- In a move that is expected to increase fuel sales, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued a modified guidance document for the biodiesel federal excise tax credit. Industry experts say it clarifies unanswered questions and will allow the incentive to be used to the fullest extent possible.
August 1, 2005 -- Ethanol and biodiesel, with their strong farm-belt political sway, were among the big renewable energy winners in the recently-passed federal energy bill. The energy bill contains a Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) that calls for a minimum of 7.5 billion gallons of ethanol and biodiesel to be used across the nation by 2012.
The Senate passed the energy bill last week by a margin of 74 to 26, while the House passed the legislation by a vote of 275 to 176. President Bush is expected to sign the measures into law within the next few weeks.
June 16, 2005 -- The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) applauded the United States Senate Committee on Finance today for including an extension of the federal biodiesel tax incentive through 2010 in the Energy Policy Tax Incentives Act of 2005. Unless Congress passes an extension, the current biodiesel tax incentive, which took effect on January 1, 2005, will expire on December 31, 2006.

March 6, 2005 -- With pollution and the demand for fuels ever increasing, an alternative has to be found as soon as possible. In a conference held this weekend, organized by fuel-company Edible Oil Refining Company Ltd, it was made public that an experimental collection of used cooking oils will take place, with such materials being used for producing biodiesel. Biodiesel could be a potential product that helps to alleviate the current problem. Biodiesel could help fuel our future.

October 6, 2001 -- Whenever Harold Benich wants to get away from his hometown of Albion, Pa., (pop. 1,607) for a road trip on his custom-built Harley Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle, he bypasses the neighborhood gas station.
No, he isn’t searching for the best bargain on gasoline. The fuel Benich buys can’t be found at any typical gas station because Benich’s motorcycle runs on soybean oil.

You will know him by his smell, that cloying, almost-familiar odor of french fries gone wrong, a smell that can pique and puncture your appetite in the same instant. He'll be wearing the same outfit -- black leather jacket, T-shirt, blue jeans -- but he'll be driving a different car every time you see him, a different turbocharged Mercedes Benz diesel from the early Reagan years.
